A dress removes a decision from the morning, which is the whole idea behind this collection: pieces that work as a complete outfit, so the only question left is which shoes. We keep necklines simple, because a square neck with a lace edge reads as considered without asking for jewellery. Sleeves are where we spend the most time, since a poet sleeve that catches on a door handle or dips into a cup will not be worn twice. Each style is tried with a jacket over it and with nothing over it, and the ones that need help to look right do not go onto the site at all.
Lace, knit and the drape test
Lace is stitched flat to a lining rather than gathered, so it lies against the body instead of standing away from it. Knit pieces are weighed before they are cut; a top that looks crisp on a hanger can hang like a bag by the afternoon, and the only cure is a heavier yarn and a tighter gauge. Anything with a slit or an open back is worn seated, walking and climbing stairs before it is approved. What the testing leaves is a short rail of dresses and tops that behave the same way on a Tuesday as they do in a photograph taken in a studio.
Advice before you order
If you are between sizes, send us your measurements and the style you are considering, and we will compare them with the production sample rather than with the model. Orders are packed in Lexington, Kentucky and posted within one to two business days, with tracking emailed when the parcel leaves us. Returns are accepted within thirty days of delivery on unworn items with their original tags, and refunds go to the original payment method once the garment reaches us. We answer every message ourselves, usually the same business day, and we would much rather help you choose the right size than process an exchange later.
